In a thrilling showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Morgan Trojans proved that champions never rest on their laurels. On Saturday, they secured their second consecutive 3A state title with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over their longtime rivals, Ogden. For a team that has been building a dynasty, this win wasn't just about the trophy—it was about the legacy of seven seniors who have become the heart and soul of the program.

Led by seniors Reed Caldwell, Joshua DeMond, Kevin Wangsgard, Bentley Cantwell, Denja Sisson, Marcus Wilde, and Troy Tatton, the Trojans brought a level of teamwork and resilience that has become their trademark. Head coach Kyle Komenda couldn't hide his pride for his graduating class. "I'm just happy for them," he said. "Some of these guys have been with us the whole time. They are culture-setters. Even if they are not on the floor, they are a big part of what we do."

Morgan came out firing on all cylinders, taking the first set—a feat they hadn't managed in either of their previous matchups with Ogden this season. The set was a nail-biter, but the Trojans pulled away thanks to seven kills from Kevin Wangsgard, who finished the match with an impressive 21 kills and a .377 hitting percentage. It was a statement of intent from a team that knows how to rise to the occasion.

Ogden, however, wasn't about to go quietly. They stormed back to tie the match with a dominant second set, putting Morgan's composure to the test. But Komenda had faith in his squad—and more importantly, the players had faith in each other. "I think it's a testament to how together they are," Komenda explained. "If you can get them playing as a team, believing in themselves as a team and loving each other as a team, that is where that comes from."

That unshakable bond was on full display in the third and fourth sets, where Morgan executed their game plan to perfection. While the whole team stepped up, a few players truly shined. Kevin and Nate Wangsgard, along with David Thomsen, were the standout performers. Nate Wangsgard stuffed the stat sheet with seven kills, six blocks, and 16 digs, while Thomsen added 14 blocks and four kills of his own. It was a defensive clinic that left Ogden scrambling.

For Komenda and his Trojans, the repeat is more than just a win—it's a testament to their hard work and unity. "It's awesome. It's just awesome," Komenda said. "You got it one time and you think, 'I want to do this again.' These young men, they want it, and you've got to make sure that you're there for them."

As the Morgan Trojans celebrate their back-to-back titles, one thing is clear: this team has built a culture of excellence that will inspire future generations. Whether you're hitting the court or just gearing up for your next game, remember that champions are made by the trust they build and the effort they put in—just like the Trojans.
