In a commanding display of skill and determination, undefeated Maeser Prep punched their ticket to the 2A state championship game with a dominant 4-0 victory over American Heritage in Monday's semifinals at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. The top-seeded Lions (17-0) will face No. 3 seed Rowland Hall in next week's final, setting the stage for a thrilling title clash.

This win marks a remarkable turnaround for Maeser Prep, who two years ago saw their championship hopes dashed in a heartbreaking semifinal loss to the same American Heritage program. Since that defeat, the Lions have been virtually unstoppable, riding a 26-game winning streak that now has them on the cusp of back-to-back 2A state titles.

Denzel Sono-Koree got things started with a first-half goal, giving Maeser Prep a 1-0 lead at the break. The Lions then poured it on in the second half, with Donnel Sono-Koree, Noah Johnson, and Nate Bowler each finding the back of the net to seal the emphatic victory.

"Our seniors have been to the semis four years in a row, so they have that experience and confidence," said Maeser Prep coach Dustin Simmons. "They're really locked in, and that makes a big difference for our team."

Simmons credited his midfield and defense for setting the tone throughout the match. "When we possess the ball, we're hard to beat. Our midfield is the best in the state at our level, and our back line is phenomenal," he said. "Caleb Garner is the best defender in 2A, and that gives us the confidence to play out from the back."

Maeser Prep's dominance was evident from the opening whistle, with the Lions controlling possession and creating scoring chances at will. The defensive unit, led by Garner, was rock-solid, snuffing out any American Heritage threats and keeping a clean sheet.

The championship game is set for next Monday at 11 a.m. at Zions Bank Stadium, where Maeser Prep will face Rowland Hall, who advanced with a thrilling overtime victory in the other semifinal. For a team that has been nearly perfect all season, this final represents the last hurdle in their quest for back-to-back titles.
