High school boys soccer: Thursday’s 6A/4A quarterfinal recap

The stakes couldn't have been higher on Thursday as Utah's top high school boys soccer teams battled it out in the 6A and 4A state tournament quarterfinals. With semifinal berths on the line, the action delivered drama, standout performances, and a few surprises that set the stage for an unforgettable postseason run.

6A Playoffs

Farmington 2, Copper Hills 0
Third-seeded Farmington proved why they're a title contender, cruising past No. 11 Copper Hills with a commanding 2-0 victory. Kade Mackintosh was the star of the show, scoring once and setting up Dax Patrick for the other goal. Between the posts, goalkeeper Jaxon Beynon stood tall, recording a clean sheet to send the Phoenix soaring into the semifinals.

Salt Lake Academy 1, Skyridge 0
In a tense defensive battle, fourth-seeded Salt Lake Academy edged out No. 5 Skyridge thanks to a first-half strike from Tyson Harris. The lone goal was all the Eagles needed, as Bryson Brock anchored the backline with a shutout performance. Skyridge pushed hard in the second half but couldn't find an equalizer, leaving Salt Lake Academy to celebrate a hard-fought semifinal berth.

Lone Peak 1, Bingham 1 (Lone Peak advances 4-2 on penalties)
The top-seeded Knights faced their toughest test yet, needing penalty kicks to dispatch No. 8 Bingham after a 1-1 draw. Kien Cid put Lone Peak ahead in the second half with an assist from Patrick Stevenson, but Bingham's Mason Simmons leveled the score to force a shootout. From the spot, the Knights showed nerves of steel, converting four penalties to Bingham's two and keeping their championship hopes alive.

Mountain Ridge 2, Davis 1
Seventh-seeded Mountain Ridge pulled off the day's biggest upset, toppling second-seeded Davis in a 2-1 thriller. Kash Fritzsche and Brody Tarwater each found the net for the Sentinels, while Griffin Carmack scored for Davis off a Kasen Smith assist. The win propels Mountain Ridge into the semifinals, proving that seeding means little once the playoffs begin.

4A Playoffs

Desert Hills 3, Timpanogos 2
Boone Heaton stole the spotlight with a spectacular hat trick, powering fourth-seeded Desert Hills past No. 5 Timpanogos. The Thunder built a 3-0 lead with goals in both halves, only to see Timpanogos mount a late rally with strikes from Cooper Michaelis and Evan Haderlie. Desert Hills held firm, though, clinching a spot in next week's semifinals.

Crimson Cliffs 4, Ridgeline 2
Portman Busk delivered a two-goal performance as seventh-seeded Crimson Cliffs stunned No. 2 Ridgeline. The Mustangs stormed out of the gates with two first-half goals from Kaden Parrish and Rockwell Mccausland, but Ridgeline fought back with Grayden Rupp and Fischer Gieger leveling the score by halftime. Busk's second-half brace proved decisive, sending Crimson Cliffs into the semifinals with a statement win.
