Texas signee Trey Rangel got it done at the plate and on the mound against Frisco Wakeland to keep The Colony’s district title hopes alive with a 1-0 win on Tuesday.

The senior’s solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning was the lone run scored in Tuesday night’s game that kept the District 12-5A title race alive for all four playoff teams. Rangel also threw a complete game while allowing just one hit and striking out an impressive 16 batters.

Frisco Wakeland junior pitcher Max Vetkoetter allowed just four hits and struck out 10.

The Colony's win ties the district standings at 10-3. The title game was far from settled heading into Friday night, with Highland Park at 10-2 in district facing off against Frisco Lone Star at 9-3.

District 14-5A’s playoff representatives are becoming clearer with Seagoville’s loss to district champion Woodrow Wilson Tuesday night. Both Bryan Adams and Mesquite, who play each other Wednesday night and Friday, were tied with eight wins in third and fourth place, meaning Seagoville needed to try and sweep the two-game series against Wilson this week to remain in the playoff hunt and then hope for a Bryan Adams sweep of Poteet.

Poteet swept Seagoville earlier this season, so a tiebreaker against Adams was the team’s only route to the postseason. The Tuesday night loss all but ended Seagoville’s playoff chances.

Wilson’s six-run third inning blew the game open with Sean Marlowe, Jake Gillespie, Aimen Adem and Luis Garcia all recording RBIs in the frame.

Northwest 4, Keller Timber Creek 0: The biggest Northwest fans this Friday will be Southlake Carroll, who are sitting to see their playoff fate.

Carroll finished the season 8-8 in District 4-6A while splitting the series with Keller Timber Creek. Timber Creek’s 7-8 now with its loss to Northwest leaving the door open for Southlake Carroll to claim the final playoff spot outright without a tiebreaker if Northwest wins again on Friday.

Red Oak 3, Crandall 0: Another result with playoff implications is Red Oak stepping into pole position for District 15-5A’s final spot with a 3-0 win over Crandall thanks to Nathan McKnight’s eight-strikeout effort in seven innings.

Midlothian (6-7) plays Terrell Wednesday, but Red Oak owns the head-to-head over Midlothian, so one more win over Crandall on Friday will likely guarantee them a playoff berth.

Flower Mound Marcus 3, Coppell 0: With last week’s win over Flower Mound, Coppell tied Flower Mound Marcus in the district standings headed into this week’s final round of games.

Marcus took a big leg up in the race behind an impressive outing from pitcher Michael Killian, who threw nine strikeouts in five innings, allowing just one hit. Jake Powell slowed things down in the final two frames with three strikeouts. The job is really simple for Marcus now: Win Friday and get into the playoffs.

Zachary Ryan, Trinity: The senior pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts against LD Bell in Trinity’s 4-0 win. He allowed just three hits.

Trey Rangel, The Colony: Talk about getting it done when your team needed you the most. Rangel’s 16-strikeout performance was only matched by his solo home run to give his team a 1-0 win over Frisco Wakeland.

Daylon Brooks, South Grand Prairie: Brooks finished 3-of-4 at the plate with two RBI and an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the fifth to extend what would become his team’s 12-2 win over Arlington Bowie.

Aiden Gray, Birdville: Birdville never trailed after Aiden Gray’s solo home run in the bottom of the second inning as the team went on to win 6-0. Gray finished 3-of-4 at the plate, later adding an RBI.

Easton Moore, Burleson Centennial: An eight-strikeout one-hit performance from Easton Moore led to Burleson Centennial’s 14-0 win over Mansfield Timberview. Patch Tuggle also homered in the game.

James Jorgensen, Jesuit: A no-hitter with fourteen strikeouts from Texas signee James Jorgensen led to Jesuit’s convincing 10-0 win over Irving Nimitz.

Zach Richard, Frisco Emerson: Zach Richard went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI, including a two-run double in the bottom of the second inning that padded Frisco Emerson’s eventual 12-1 win over Frisco Liberty.
