Wednesday saw another down-to-the-wire contest between Grantsville and Carbon after the Dinos dominated Logan in the one-loss bracket with a 26-13 victory to force another showdown against the Cowboys. Once again, Carbon held a four-run lead over the Cowboys, but couldn’t hold on as Grantsville put together another big rally for a thrilling 10-6 come-from-behind victory to advance to the 3A championship game against Union.

The pressure was on Wednesday as the No. 2 Grantsville Cowboys faced off against Carbon in a thrilling elimination game, with a spot in the 3A championship on the line. After Carbon dominated Logan 26-13 earlier in the day in the one-loss bracket, the stage was set for another showdown—and it did not disappoint.

Once again, Carbon jumped out to a four-run lead, looking poised to force a decisive final. But Grantsville, showing the resilience that has defined their season, mounted another stunning comeback. The Cowboys rallied for a 10-6 victory, securing their place in the championship game against No. 1 Union.

"I'm grateful for the win, but I'd appreciate not having to come from behind next time," said Grantsville head coach Trevor Thornton with a grin. "That was another barn burner—and give Carbon a lot of credit. They have a great team and can really hit the ball. We knew we had to play our best, and I'm super proud of our guys for being resilient and digging down deep again."

The Cowboys came out swinging, jumping to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Jordan Fawson singled, stole second, and Payton Cummings—who finished with a game-high five RBIs—drove him in. Then Jaxxon Jensen stepped to the plate and launched a towering solo homer over the left-field wall. "I was waiting on that pitch," Jensen said. "I knew they were going to throw me a curveball, and I'm glad I made the most of it."

Grantsville had the bases loaded with a chance to blow the game open, but Carbon escaped the jam. The Dinos answered quickly in the bottom of the inning, as Cash Withers singled and Maddux Willson crushed a two-run homer to left, knotting the game at 2-2.

Carbon seized control in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs to take a 6-2 lead. After a string of walks, Jackson Bosone delivered a two-run single to left. Logan Bennett followed with a double to deep center, plating two more. The Dinos nearly added another run, but Withers was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Trailing by four, Grantsville refused to fold. The Cowboys chipped away, and in the later innings, their bats came alive. A combination of timely hits, aggressive baserunning, and Carbon miscues allowed Grantsville to storm back and take the lead. Cummings delivered another clutch RBI, and the Cowboys' defense tightened up to shut down any Carbon comeback hopes.

The victory sends Grantsville to the 3A championship series against top-seeded Union. For a team that has made a habit of thrilling comebacks, they'll hope to start fast and finish strong when it matters most. With the title on the line, expect more drama, more heart, and more unforgettable high school baseball moments.
