The 4A state tournament is heating up, and #2 Desert Hills showed exactly why they're a top contender. After an early 3-run deficit against #6 Bear River, the Thunder bats came alive in a big way, storming back for a commanding 12-6 victory in bracket play.

The offensive explosion was led by Cohen Fuller, who delivered a jaw-dropping performance with a home run and 5 RBIs. But the heroics weren't limited to the plate. Senior pitcher Hoyt Atkin was electric on the mound, tossing 5 innings and fanning 6 batters to secure the win.

"We love putting up runs when we're in the hole," said Desert Hills head coach Jagun Leavitt. "Being down 3 runs in the 1st and then tacking on 2, 2, 2, 2, and three—that's what this program is all about."

The relentless scoring didn't just fill the stat sheet; it took the pressure off the defense. Leavitt praised Atkin's composure: "Scoring runs early and often makes it easier for a pitcher. Hoyt is always confident. Give him a little more support, and he pitches even better. He's a senior and a great kid."

Desert Hills has opened the tournament with impressive momentum, and Leavitt knows consistency is key. "We're taking it one game at a time. Momentum is huge—we want to keep it. If they make a big play, we punch right back."

With tougher competition looming as the tournament progresses, the Thunder are ready for the challenge. "We're going to see great pitching," Leavitt said. "But we trust our bats. No matter the score, we believe we can keep adding runs."
