Tyler Herro's heroics weren't enough as his Miami Heat fell to Kon Knueppel's Charlotte Hornets in the NBA play-in battle.

In a heart-stopping NBA play-in tournament clash, Milwaukee-born stars took center stage, but it was Kon Knueppel's Charlotte Hornets who survived Tyler Herro's late-game heroics to claim a 127-126 overtime victory.

The game was a showcase of clutch performance. With the Miami Heat down five and under 26 seconds left, Tyler Herro entered the game and immediately delivered. The Whitnall High School product drilled a corner three, then drew a foul on a subsequent three-point attempt, sinking all three free throws to give Miami a fleeting 126-125 lead with just 8.7 seconds on the clock.

Herro finished with 23 points, but his brilliant late-game flurry was ultimately answered. Charlotte's LaMelo Ball drove for the go-ahead score with 4.7 seconds left, and a potential game-winner by Miami's Davion Mitchell was blocked by Miles Bridges to seal the Hornets' win.

While Herro shined, fellow Milwaukee product Kon Knueppel, the Wisconsin Lutheran standout and Rookie of the Year candidate, had a quiet night with just six points. However, his team's collective effort proved decisive. The victory keeps Charlotte's playoff hopes alive; they can secure the Eastern Conference's final spot with a win on Friday.

For Herro, the loss stings, but it caps another stellar individual season where he averaged 20.5 points per game for the fifth straight year, shooting a career-best 48% from the field. The play-in tournament once again proved that in the NBA, every second counts, and the line between triumph and heartbreak is razor-thin.
