Here's who Michigan State basketball will face in Big Ten play during the 2026-27 season, with the full schedule to be revealed sometime in September.

Tom Izzo and Michigan State basketball now know the road ahead for the 2026-27 season—and with the Final Four set for Detroit, the stakes couldn't be higher. The Big Ten announced its opponent slate on Tuesday, May 12, with the full schedule of dates expected to drop in mid-September.

In conference play, the Spartans will face defending Big Ten champion Michigan in the annual rivalry two-game series, along with Maryland and Nebraska both at Breslin Center and on the road. Home-only matchups include Minnesota, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, Washington, and Wisconsin. Road-only contests will take the team to Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, Ohio State, UCLA, and USC.

That trip to USC and UCLA marks the second Los Angeles excursion in three years since the Big Ten expanded to 18 teams in 2024-25. Meanwhile, the Spartans will welcome Washington and Oregon after traveling to the Pacific Northwest last season.

Izzo, who owns 11 regular-season conference championships, will be chasing history—looking to break a tie with Bob Knight and Ward "Piggy" Lambert for the most in Big Ten history. The Spartans are coming off a 27-8 season that ended in the Sweet 16 for the second straight year and third time in four seasons, finishing 15-5 in conference play (a three-way tie for second) after winning the league title the previous year.

MSU will serve as the host school for the Final Four at Ford Field on April 3 and 5, 2027. Izzo has led the program to eight Final Fours in 31 seasons, including a runner-up finish to North Carolina in 2009—also in Detroit. The nonconference schedule is expected to be another gauntlet, with likely matchups against Tennessee, Gonzaga, and Arkansas (though those deals and dates aren't finalized yet). MSU-Arkansas is tentatively set for Nov. 26 at Little Caesars Arena, and the Spartans will face Duke in the Champions Classic on Nov. 10 at Chicago's United Center.

With the Final Four in their own backyard, every game on the 2026-27 slate takes on extra meaning. Gear up for the season ahead with the latest Michigan State basketball apparel—because this could be a season for the history books.
