The sun was shining bright across Rhode Island as high school sports kicked off the second half of the spring season on Monday, May 4, 2026. From dramatic comebacks to dominant pitching performances, here's everything you need to know from a thrilling day of action.

In what was undoubtedly the game of the day, North Kingstown's softball team showed why they remain unbeaten at 15-0. The Skippers trailed throughout against Bay View-Providence Country Day before staging a late rally that kept their perfect season alive. Down 4-0 early after Lexi Fredericks' three-run homer in the first inning, North Kingstown chipped away before Amelia Fries crushed a game-tying two-run homer in the seventh to force extra innings. Riley McHale then delivered the game-winning infield single in the eighth, plating Kylah LeComte to give the Skippers their first lead of the day. Alexis St. Germain was the unsung hero, throwing six hitless innings in relief with eight strikeouts, before setting down the Bengals 1-2-3 in the bottom of the eighth to seal the win.

Over on the diamond, La Salle's baseball team continued their strong season with a 3-0 road win over Bishop Feehan in Massachusetts, completing a sweep of the Shamrocks. Cameron Caprio and Eli Merejildo combined on a four-hit shutout, with Caprio earning the win after allowing just three hits and striking out six over six innings. The Rams (11-3) provided all the offense they needed in the fourth inning, when Adryan Urena squeezed home Brady Collins with a bunt single, Axel da Silva added a sacrifice fly, and Jayce Bessette drew a bases-loaded walk. Collins and Xavier Rios each finished with two hits for La Salle, who have now won two of their last three games.

As the spring season heats up, coaches are reminded to send in game results each weeknight between 6 and 10 p.m. by emailing pjsports@providencejournal.com. Stay tuned for more action as the race for playoff positioning intensifies across the state.
