MIAMI — Having missed the penultimate game of the regular season due to soreness in his right foot, Miami Heat guard Tyler Herro will undergo a cleanup procedure on the foot this week.
An NBA source confirmed Monday that Herro’s surgery is elective and is not expected to impact his offseason work.
The Heat bypassed an Herro contract-extension window in October, after the seventh-year guard underwent surgery on his left ankle in September, a procedure the sidelined the former All- Star for the first 17 games of the season. Herro did not make his season debut until Nov. 24.
In all, Herro appeared in just 33 of the regular-season’s 82 games due to a variety of injuries, including missing 13 games due to a toe bruise and 15 due to a rib injury.
In addition, he also missed two games due to a quad injury and one for personal reasons, in addition to that late-season game missed due to the sore right foot.
Herro’s final appearance of the season was in the Heat’s April 14 overtime season-ending play-in overtime road loss to the Charlotte Hornets, a game he closed with 23 points and six assists in 34:20.
Another extension window will open for Herro on July 1. He is entering the final season of a contract that pays $33 million this coming season.
The Herro surgery first was reported by Miami-based Five Reason Sports.
