Former Hearts captain Gary Mackay feels Monday's home game against Rangers is one of the biggest in the club's history. The Edinburgh club are three points ahead of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership heading into the showdown with third-placed Rangers, who lie four adrift of the summit. Hearts have topped the table for much of the season and have just four games left of their mission to win their first top flight-title since 1960.

The stakes couldn't be higher for Hearts as they prepare for what former captain Gary Mackay calls the club's biggest game since 1960. Monday's showdown against Rangers at Tynecastle isn't just another fixture—it's a potential title-decider that has the entire city of Edinburgh buzzing.

Currently sitting three points clear of Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership, Hearts have been the league's surprise package this season. They've led the table for much of the campaign, and with just four games remaining, they're chasing their first top-flight championship in 64 years. Rangers, meanwhile, sit four points behind in third place, making this a must-win for both sides.

The momentum is firmly with Hearts after last weekend's Edinburgh derby victory over Hibernian. Mackay, who played for the club during their last serious title challenge in 1986, has been overwhelmed by the emotion surrounding Monday's match. He shared a story about a 78-year-old fan who attended his 205th derby and texted him to say this game is the biggest he's seen since Hearts last won the league in 1960.

"Everybody's got their own thoughts and memories of why Monday is so important," Mackay said. For the 62-year-old, the memories are personal—he was part of the Hearts squad that heartbreakingly lost the title to Celtic on the final day of the 1985-86 season.

Despite the pressure, Mackay is calling on supporters to be the 12th man. "I don't think any of us at this time last year thought we'd be where we are," he admitted. "It's important we get rid of any kind of negativity. It doesn't matter where we are in the 10th minute or the 70th minute—we need to be right behind the team from the first minute to the last."

He added: "The players and management have given us a season that's up there with one of the best I've ever had as a Hearts supporter. It's up to us to repay them by making sure we give them the best chance possible to get the outcome we all want."

For fans heading to Tynecastle, this is more than just a game—it's a chance to be part of history. Wear your colors with pride and get ready for a night that could define a generation of Hearts supporters.
