Hearts boss Derek McInnes didn't hold back after a controversial stoppage-time penalty decision handed Celtic a dramatic 3-2 win over Motherwell on Wednesday night. The result has massive implications for the Scottish Premiership title race, and McInnes made his feelings crystal clear.

With Celtic trailing 2-1 at Fir Park, the defending champions were awarded a last-gasp spot-kick after Motherwell's Sam Nicholson was penalized for handball. But replays suggested the ball actually struck Nicholson's head, not his hand. Despite this, referee John Beaton pointed to the spot after reviewing the incident on the pitchside monitor, following a VAR check.

The decision left McInnes fuming. "When you heard Celtic had a 96th-minute penalty going to VAR, you just assume they get it," the Hearts manager told Sky Sports. "It's disgusting. We're up against it, we're up against everybody. I don't think it's a penalty. It's so poor and it looks as though they've been given it. They have been very fortunate."

The stakes couldn't be higher. Had Celtic dropped points, Hearts could have afforded to lose their upcoming clash at Celtic Park this weekend and still be crowned champions. Now, the league leaders must avoid defeat to the defending champions if they want to end a 40-year dominance of Scottish football by Celtic and Rangers.

But McInnes isn't backing down from the challenge. Despite feeling his side is "up against everybody" in the title race, he's relishing the opportunity. "It's going to the last game. We're delighted to be part of it," he said. "To do it, we're going to have to go and get a positive result. I'm looking forward to it already, there'll be no feeling sorry for ourselves. What a game it's going to be."

For fans watching from home, this is the kind of drama that makes football unforgettable. And whether you're supporting Hearts, Celtic, or just love the beautiful game, one thing's for sure: the Scottish Premiership title race is going down to the wire.
