Gujarat Titans are on fire. Their fifth consecutive victory—a commanding 82-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium—was powered by a familiar, devastating weapon: their Powerplay bowling.
On a pitch offering seam movement, the new-ball duo of Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada struck with pace and precision, leaving SRH's explosive top order gasping. Siraj set the tone with a wicket-maiden, dismissing Travis Head for a duck. Rabada then ripped through the lineup, removing Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Smaran Ravichandran to leave SRH reeling at 32/4 inside six overs. Chasing a modest 169, the visitors collapsed for just 86 in 14.5 overs. Rabada finished with 3/28, Jason Holder claimed 3/20, and Prasidh Krishna chipped in with 2/23.
GT spinner R Sai Kishore credited the team's clarity and discipline to head coach Ashish Nehra and captain Shubman Gill. "Siraj and Rabada have been hitting their lengths superbly this season. That's the advantage of having proper Test-match bowlers in your lineup. Shubman and Ashish Nehra have led us brilliantly in terms of bowling philosophy—knowing exactly what lengths to bowl in the Powerplay," Kishore explained.
"On this wicket, without relying heavily on slower balls or yorkers, the bowlers trusted the good length. That proper Test-match bowling has made a huge difference for us this season."
When asked if this approach might backfire on flat batting surfaces, Kishore emphasized the attack's adaptability. "That's where adaptability comes in. Rabada, Siraj, and Holder are excellent with yorkers and cutters too. But on this wicket, you had to be brave and hit those hard lengths. That's been our philosophy. If it's a classic batting wicket, we'll be smart enough to use yorkers, slower bouncers, and cutters to get batters out. We're equipped for that."
