The LHSAA baseball playoffs kicked off with high drama on Friday, and the Haughton Buccaneers set the tone with a thrilling road victory. In a classic pitcher's duel that stretched into extra innings, Haughton emerged with a hard-fought 3-2 win in nine frames to open the Non-Select Division I bracket.
The Buccaneers' success was built on the mound, where starter Seth Jorstad delivered a gutsy performance. He worked 6.1 strong innings, surrendering just one run and fanning five batters to keep his team in the fight. Reliever Brady Bockhaus then sealed the deal, earning the win with two crucial innings of scoreless relief.
Jorstad wasn't done contributing, however. He carried his performance to the plate, going 2-for-4 and driving in two runs, including the game-winning RBI on a clutch triple. He was backed by CT Woodward, who added two hits of his own, a double, and an RBI to fuel the offensive effort.
With the series lead in hand, Haughton looks to close it out on Saturday. Game two is scheduled for 11 a.m., with a decisive game three to follow 30 minutes later if necessary. It's the kind of high-stakes baseball that defines the Louisiana playoffs.
