Harvey Sarajian's professional journey brought him back to familiar ground this week, as the Orlando City prospect traveled with the MLS side to face FC Naples in the U.S. Open Cup. For the Naples High alum and 2023 Southwest Florida Boys Soccer Player of the Year, the trip was a homecoming, filled with reunions with former coaches, teammates, and fans at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex.
Selected fifth overall by Orlando City in the most recent MLS SuperDraft, Sarajian is a name local fans know well. Though not in the active lineup for the Lions' 1-0 victory, his presence highlighted the pathway from local standout to the professional ranks. After the final whistle, while fans headed for the exits, Sarajian was hard at work on the pitch, putting in conditioning and agility drills—a testament to the daily grind required at the next level.
The moment was particularly special for his former high school coach, Bob Prange, who shared a warm pregame reunion. Prange, who retired after this past season, recalled the early signs of a special talent. "He wore his jerseys every single day," Prange said, reminiscing about a young Sarajian who dominated youth games. "He went through every kid on the field... It was unbelievable."
Sarajian's pedigree is undeniable. At Naples High, his 23-goal, 12-assist senior campaign propelled the Golden Eagles to a state championship game. After a stellar freshman year at Georgia Southern, where he was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, he transferred to Wake Forest, contributing to a solid season for the Demon Deacons.
Orlando City's leadership is clearly invested in his development. Interim coach Martín Perelman expressed the club's confidence, stating, "We are so happy with him." For aspiring players and fans in Southwest Florida, Sarajian's journey—from local fields to training with an MLS club—serves as powerful inspiration, proving that hard work and dedication can turn hometown dreams into professional reality.
