Manchester United continue to double down on their academy revolution, and the latest move signals a clear intent to dominate youth development for years to come. Under the Ineos ownership, the Red Devils have made the academy a top priority, investing heavily to snap up some of the most promising young talents in the game.

Recent signings like Ayden Heaven and Chido Obi—both poached from Arsenal’s academy—along with international prospects Sekou Kone, Diego Leon, and Cristian Orozco, have bolstered the squad significantly. The results speak for themselves: the under-21s have stormed into the playoff semi-finals against Manchester City, while the under-18s are set to face the same rivals in the FA Youth Cup final next week.

But it’s not just about the players on the pitch. United have been reshaping their backroom staff too, with Darren Hughes arriving from Manchester City as a coach under academy head Stephen Torpey. Now, according to the Daily Mail, the club is eyeing another key addition to their recruitment team.

After failing to land Newcastle’s head of youth recruitment Paul Midgley in December, United have reportedly turned their attention to Harvey Busby, the Magpies’ lead youth technical scout. If he accepts the role, Busby would take charge of the under-14 to under-16 age groups at Carrington, bringing his sharp eye for talent to a crucial development phase.

This isn’t the first time United have raided Newcastle’s ranks—they famously lured Dan Ashworth away as sporting director in 2024, though his tenure was short-lived before Jason Wilcox took over. For fans, this latest pursuit is another sign that the club is building for the long haul, focusing on the foundation that could produce the next generation of stars.
