Bryce Harper had a homer, double and single, Aaron Nola worked six strong innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Monday night. Adolis García had two hits for the Phillies, who took three of four games in Miami and improved to 6-1 under interim manager Don Mattingly. Nola (2-3) bounced back from two consecutive difficult outings, scattering five hits and striking out five.

In a classic pitchers' duel that had fans on the edge of their seats, the Philadelphia Phillies edged out the Miami Marlins 1-0 on Monday night, thanks to a standout performance from Bryce Harper and a bounce-back outing from Aaron Nola.

Harper was the star of the show, collecting a single, a double, and his seventh home run of the season—a 393-foot blast to right-center in the third inning off Marlins starter Janson Junk. That solo shot proved to be all the offense the Phillies needed on a night when runs were at a premium.

Nola (2-3) delivered exactly what his team needed after a rough stretch. The right-hander, who had surrendered 11 runs over his previous two starts, looked sharp and composed, scattering five hits and striking out five over six innings. He worked out of a jam in the sixth, when the Marlins put a runner in scoring position with one out, but Nola induced a groundout to end the threat.

The Phillies' bullpen was equally impressive. Tanner Banks handled the seventh, José Alvarado breezed through a perfect eighth, and closer Brad Keller locked it down in the ninth, allowing two singles but earning his second save of the year.

Defense also played a key role, with catcher Garrett Stubbs throwing out two would-be base stealers—Jakob Marsee in the third and Otto López in the fourth. It marked the first time in Stubbs' career that he's gunned down multiple runners in a single game.

Adolis García chipped in with two hits for the Phillies, who improved to 6-1 under interim manager Don Mattingly and took three of four games in Miami.

For the Marlins, it was a night of missed opportunities. Starter Janson Junk (2-3) was solid, allowing just one run on five hits over 5 1/3 innings with six strikeouts, but his offense couldn't provide support. Meanwhile, rookie catcher Joe Mack went 0-for-3 in his major league debut after being called up from Triple-A.

Both teams now turn the page to their next series. The Phillies head home to face the Athletics, with left-hander Cristopher Sánchez (2-2, 2.90 ERA) taking the mound against Oakland's Luis Severino (2-2, 4.46 ERA). The Marlins will host the Orioles, sending right-hander Sandy Alcantara (3-2, 3.04 ERA) to the hill against Baltimore's Chris Bassitt (2-2, 5.46 ERA).
