The Salt Lake City Supercross kicked off with a bang as Haiden Deegan stormed to the top of the leaderboard in the first qualification session for the 250 East/West Showdown. The young star clocked a blistering 49.113 seconds, making him the fastest rider on the track and setting the tone for what promises to be an electrifying evening program.
Deegan, who is eager to wrap up this round and shift his full focus to the 450 class and Pro Motocross, wasted no time asserting his dominance. He grabbed the holeshot early in the session, with Ryder DiFrancesco trailing close behind. From there, Deegan only got faster, building nearly a one-second lead over the pack. But Levi Kitchen wasn't about to let him run away with it. Kitchen pushed hard in the final laps, posting a 49.668 to cut the gap to just 0.55 seconds and secure second place. He was the only other rider to break the 50-second barrier, proving the competition is fierce.
Lux Turner turned heads with a strong 50.472 to claim third overall, while DiFrancesco (50.555) and Max Anstie (50.637) rounded out the top five. In just his second professional race, Kayden Minear showed promise with a seventh-place finish at 51.003.
Over in the Eastern division, Seth Hammaker was the man to beat. He led the session from start to finish, posting a 49.830 that placed him third overall behind Deegan and Kitchen. Hammaker's time was more than a second faster than Nate Thrasher (50.926), who settled for second in the East. Eastern champion Cole Davies took a more relaxed approach, landing in third with a 51.046, while Devin Simonson—fresh off his first podium of the season in Nashville—finished fourth at 51.290 and is hungry for more.
With the field split into East and West for qualifying, the stage is set for a showdown that could have major implications for the SuperMotocross championship. And with Husqvarna's recent departure from the series sending ripples through the paddock, all eyes are on how the riders adapt to the shifting landscape. One thing's for sure: Deegan is on a mission, and the competition is ready to answer.
