ORWIGSBURG — The Schuylkill League Track and Field Championship delivered an afternoon of electrifying performances at Blue Mountain's Eagles Nest on Tuesday, as the host school soared to a dominant team victory in the 2026 edition of the meet.

Both the Blue Mountain boys' and girls' squads captured first-place team honors, powered by an impressive nine gold medal finishes. The Eagles' standout performers included Sophia Spolski, who claimed three gold medals, while Chase Guers and Rafael Liranzo each brought home two individual titles.

"Our team goal is to always try and win the Schuylkill League and we want to get as many kids to the district meet as we can," said Blue Mountain coach Cory Mabry. "The ultimate goal is to get as many kids as we can to Shippensburg for the state meet."

The championship action set the stage for the District 11 Championship, which kicks off next Tuesday, May 12, at Whitehall High School. Several athletes used the league meet as a springboard for postseason success, delivering standout performances that turned heads across the region.

Pottsville's Alexa Giuffre was the star of the day, capturing gold in an incredible four events: the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. "I've been doing good with the hurdles and I want to wait until districts and states to peak," Giuffre said. "I've been jumping well and getting better every meet."

Schuylkill Haven's Ethan Kline showcased his strength in the throwing events, winning gold in both the shot put (53 feet, 11 inches) and discus (149 feet, 11 inches). "It's been a slow progression to fix my technique piece by piece and build it up and keep progressing one throw at a time," Kline explained. "It helps to not get frustrated when you see one positive thing happen and they just keep coming."

North Schuylkill's Luke Miller blazed to victory in the 100-meter dash with a blistering time of 10.67 seconds, then anchored the gold medal-winning 400-meter relay team that crossed the line in 42.62 seconds. He also earned a silver medal in the 200-meter run with a time of 21.75 seconds. "I just want to trust my race, take them one at a time and trust my race because Chase Guers is a great runner and we always go at it with each other," Miller said. "I appreciate that and we're both really good runners."

In the distance events, North Schuylkill's Genevieve Dando doubled up with gold medals in the 1600-meter run (5:32.25) and the 3200-meter run (12:28.23), while Pine Grove's Dane Hannevig leaped to victory in the boys' long jump with a mark of 21 feet, 0.5 inches.

Blue Mountain's Rafael Liranzo added to the Eagles' medal haul by taking first place in the 300-meter hurdles, and the boys' 1600-meter relay team also struck gold. With the district championships looming, the Schuylkill League has firmly established itself as a powerhouse to watch in the postseason.
