With the final stretch of the regular season approaching, here is a look at some of the most important matchups left on the schedule as teams battle for spots in the Schuylkill League and District 11 playoffs.
Tuesday, April 21: Blue Mountain at North Schuylkill
Blue Mountain, North Schuylkill, and Pine Grove are all tied for first in Division I with a 7-1 record. Earlier this season, Blue Mountain defeated North Schuylkill 4-1 behind two RBI from Anna Borden and seven strong innings in the circle from Emily Leonard.
On Tuesday, the two sides will meet again in a pivotal matchup in Fountain Springs. The winner will have the upper hand for now in Division I.
Both Tri-Valley and Schuylkill Haven are currently tied for second in Division II, and the winner of Tuesday afternoon’s matchup will be well positioned to make the Schuylkill League playoffs.
The Bulldogs and Hurricanes met earlier this season, a 7-3 win for Tri-Valley in Hegins.
In that game, the Bulldogs amassed 12 hits while Amber Lettich didn’t allow an earned run in the win, striking out five.
Since the beginning of the 2024-25 season, Pine Grove has an incredible 40-3 record.
All three losses have come at the hands of one team, the North Schuylkill Spartans.
Last year, the Spartans defeated the Cardinals 6-5 and 2-0 before delivering Pine Grove its only loss of the season on April 2, 6-4.
Last time the two teams met, Lyza Holmes had three RBI for the Spartans while Brigid Flynn was able to keep the Cardinals in check over seven innings.
Tuesday, April 28: Williams Valley at Schuylkill Haven
When these two teams met earlier this year, Williams Valley walked away with a dominant 13-3 win. But this isn’t the Hurricanes squad that the Vikings faced on April 2.
The Hurricanes have been clicking in recent weeks, with six straight wins, outscoring opponents 74-9 over that stretch.
The Vikings are on a six-game winning streak of their own currently and have a two-game lead over the Hurricanes and Tri-Valley in Division II.
Both Minersville and Marian Catholic have had quality seasons and had a fantastic matchup earlier this month on April 14, resulting in a 5-4 win for the Battlin’ Miners.
Both teams are looking to clinch District 11 playoff spots now, with only a few weeks into the season. While both may do so before May 6, both programs will be looking to use the finale as momentum heading into the postseason.
Marian currently sits second in the District 11 1A power ranking behind Tri-Valley, while Minersville sits second in the 2A power rankings behind Williams Valley.
