PINE GROVE — It was a night of explosive offense and dominant pitching as Tri-Valley and Blue Mountain punched their tickets to the Schuylkill League Championship with commanding semifinal victories at Walter Stump Stadium on Monday.
The Bulldogs (17-4) wasted no time making a statement, erupting for an eight-run first inning that set the tone for a 14-5 win over Williams Valley (14-8). The early barrage proved insurmountable for the Vikings, who spent the rest of the game playing catch-up.
Peyton Schley was the star on the mound for Tri-Valley, going the distance with five innings of work, allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four. "Throwing fastball strikes and being able to go to the off-speed stuff quicker really worked today," Schley said. "This will give us a lot of momentum going to districts."
Meanwhile, Blue Mountain (18-4) showed they can close with authority, using a seven-run sixth inning to break open a tight game and cruise to a 12-3 victory over Marian Catholic (17-4). The late-inning explosion showcased the Eagles' depth and resilience under pressure.
The stage is now set for a thrilling championship showdown between Tri-Valley and Blue Mountain on Wednesday at 7 p.m., back at Pine Grove's Stump Stadium. For Tri-Valley coach Brent Smith, the opportunity carries special meaning. "It'd be huge for all the work and determination these seniors have put in," Smith said. "To come away with that would be awesome, but we have another tough game in front of us no matter who it is."
With both teams bringing high-powered offenses and strong pitching into the final, fans can expect a battle that could come down to which squad executes best in big moments. For the players and coaches, Wednesday's game is more than just a league title—it's a springboard into the district playoffs.
