The Ottawa Charge returned to the Canadian Tire Centre for the first time in their semifinal series against the Boston Fleet, and they did not disappoint. In front of a playoff-record crowd, the Charge secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory, taking a 2-1 series lead. Goals from Fanuza Kadirova and Ronja Savolainen powered the win, but once again, the true star of the night was goaltender Gwyneth Philips.

Philips, affectionately known as "Fort Philips" by the Ottawa faithful, continues to be the backbone of this team. Through the first three games of the series, she has been nothing short of spectacular, making 92 saves while allowing just three goals. In Game 3 alone, she turned away 36 shots, keeping the Fleet at bay when the Charge needed her most. Every save feels crucial, and Philips delivers them with a calm confidence that inspires her teammates.

"At the end of the day, when you have Gwyneth Philips in your net, she gives you opportunities," said a team source, highlighting the goaltender's ability to keep the Charge in any game. Her performance has been a major storyline this postseason, and it's easy to see why.

However, the win was far from perfect. The Charge struggled with their shot selection, often passing up quality chances in the slot. Forward Rebecca Leslie acknowledged the need to improve: "We can do a better job of taking shots on net. We passed a lot up in the slot, so finding ways to get more shots on net is only going to help us. We just need to get back to finding ways to take those shots rather than pass them up."

The power play, which was so effective in Game 1, has gone quiet since, failing to produce a goal in the last two games. Meanwhile, the team's slow starts continue to be a concern. But there are bright spots beyond Philips. Kadirova had a two-point night, including the opening goal, and veteran defenseman Jocelyne Larocque—dubbed the "Ageless Wonder"—continues to be a steadying presence. The penalty kill has also been flawless, remaining perfect through three games.

As the series shifts back to Boston, the Charge know they have work to do. But with Philips standing tall between the pipes, they have a foundation to build on. For a team chasing a second consecutive Walter Cup Final appearance, every save, every adjustment, and every moment of brilliance matters. And right now, Philips is delivering all of that and more.
