Guilford won the NIC-10 girls track & field championship Wednesday edging runner-up Boylan by three points.

In a thrilling finish that came down to the wire, the Guilford Vikings captured the NIC-10 girls track & field championship Wednesday, narrowly edging out rival Boylan by just three points. The final team scores told the story of a fiercely competitive meet: Guilford 129, Boylan 126, Hononegah 92, Belvidere North 66, Freeport 59, Jefferson 32, Harlem 30, Auburn 17, and Belvidere 4.

The field events set the tone for the day, with standout performances across the board. Boylan's Sara Dorsey dominated the throws, winning both the shot put (10.99m) and discus (36.43m), while Guilford's Tamia Tigues secured second in both events. In the jumps, Hononegah's Jordan Dimke cleared 1.67m to win the high jump, and Guilford's freshman sensation Allison Stibal made an immediate impact by winning the long jump (5.29m) and taking second in the triple jump (10.86m).

The running events brought even more drama. Freeport's Ta'Niah McElroy blazed to victories in both the 100m (12.37) and 200m (25.79), but it was Hononegah's Kylie Simpson who stole the show in the middle distances, sweeping the 400m (58.85), 800m (2:21.03), and 1600m (5:19.31). Belvidere North's Lilly Binger, another talented freshman, took the 3200m title in 11:28.16.

For Guilford, this championship is a testament to their depth and balance across events. Freshman Allison Stibal emerged as a star of the future, while senior Zariah Burnett and junior Diamond Jones contributed crucial points. Boylan's Carolina Barker also impressed, winning the triple jump at 11.00m.

Whether you're a dedicated track athlete or a weekend runner, performances like these remind us that the right gear—from spikes to supportive apparel—can make all the difference in chasing your personal best. Congratulations to all the athletes who left it all on the track!
