In a bold prediction that's already sending ripples through the F1 paddock, former Haas team principal Guenther Steiner has tipped Kimi Antonelli to snatch the 2026 drivers' championship from under George Russell's nose—provided the young Italian can keep his composure.

We're only four races into the season, but Steiner has seen enough to call the final standings. During an appearance on The Red Flags Podcast, the outspoken ex-boss didn't mince words. Antonelli has stormed to the top of the leaderboard after back-to-back wins in China and Japan, then added another victory in Miami to stretch his advantage over Russell to 20 points. It's a blistering start that has the paddock buzzing.

"It's not only that you need the machine, but his teammate is George Russell. He's got a good teammate, a very good driver, who I rate highly," Steiner said. "I thought this was George's year to bring the championship home. But I think Kimi is slowly taking it away from him—if he can keep his cool."

Steiner didn't stop there. When asked if Antonelli is now the man to beat, he doubled down: "He still needs to win it. But he's showing all the signs of not being bothered by whatever is happening. The thing I most fear is that maybe he hits some issues and loses his cool—a little bit like Oscar did last year. Oscar was well in command before the summer break, then two things went wrong, and he lost the championship. Maybe it's Kimi's to lose, but we're early in the season."

The stakes couldn't be higher as the circus rolls into Canada. The Canadian Grand Prix at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve (May 22-24) is a track Russell calls one of his strongest—a chance to claw back ground. As it stands, Antonelli leads the standings with 100 points, Russell is second on 80, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc holds third with 59, and reigning champion Lando Norris sits fourth at 51. For Russell, the pressure is mounting. For Antonelli, it's a chance to prove that cool heads really do win titles.
