As the FA Cup final approaches, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has revealed that a late decision will be made on the fitness of star midfielder Rodri, who has been sidelined with a muscle injury for the past four matches. "We'll see. He'll travel and we'll see," Guardiola said when asked if the Spanish international could feature against Chelsea at Wembley on Saturday.
Rodri's potential absence is just one of several concerns for Guardiola, who admits his side's preparations have been far from ideal. While Chelsea have enjoyed a full week of rest and training ahead of the final, City were forced to play a grueling Premier League match against Crystal Palace on Wednesday—leaving them with minimal time to recover and prepare.
"I would prefer seven days like Chelsea had," Guardiola acknowledged. "But when you reach the final of the Carabao Cup and you win domestic trophies, you have less days. It happened in the past when we won titles. The schedule is what it is—of course it's not ideal, but it is what it is. We did it in the past, and we have to do it tomorrow."
Despite the challenges, Guardiola remains focused on the task at hand. "When you are in more difficult circumstances than your opponents, you have to do extra. That's what we have to do. It's simple. It's not the perfect scenario to prepare for the final because we haven't trained absolutely anything since the game against Crystal Palace, but we have to rely on what we have to do, and we're going to try."
With no other fitness concerns reported, City will look to overcome the odds and add another FA Cup trophy to their growing collection. Fans will be eagerly awaiting the final word on Rodri's availability, as the midfielder's presence could be the key to unlocking Chelsea's defense.
