Pep Guardiola has described Manchester City's season as "really, really good" — even if they ultimately fall short in the Premier League title race against Arsenal. With just two games left, City trail the Gunners by two points, meaning they need their rivals to slip up to claim a seventh league crown under Guardiola.
But even if the title eludes them, City can still end the campaign with silverware. They face Chelsea in the FA Cup final this Sunday, aiming to add that trophy to their League Cup win earlier in the season. It would be a strong finish for a team that has shown resilience and quality throughout a grueling schedule.
When asked whether winning two domestic trophies but missing out on the Premier League would count as a success, Guardiola was measured. "It depends on the trophies you lift," he said. "Sometimes you lift trophies and the season has been successful. Sometimes, you lift and the truth is the season has been really, really bad. I said a few weeks ago this season has been good. Really, really good."
Sunday's final marks City's fourth consecutive FA Cup appearance, though they've lost the last two — to Manchester United and Crystal Palace. Guardiola is determined to change that. "There's excitement, of course," he added. "I hope we can do better than the last two times. It's new players and it's forgotten. A new game against Chelsea. We are in the final and we have to try to win the trophy."
Preparation, however, hasn't been ideal. City face Crystal Palace midweek before Sunday's showpiece, while Chelsea have a full week to prepare. Guardiola acknowledged the challenge but remained pragmatic. "I would prefer seven days like Chelsea had, but when you reach the Carabao Cup final, you have less days. It has happened in the past when we have won the title. The schedule is what it is. It is not ideal, but we have done it in the past and we have to do it tomorrow. Because the big clubs, when you are in difficult situations, you find a way."
