Every baseball fan knows that even the greatest hitters go through slumps—and right now, Cleveland Guardians' superstar José Ramírez is in the middle of one. Widely regarded as the best player in franchise history and a generational talent, Ramírez has built his reputation on remarkable consistency. But just over a month into the 2026 season, the numbers tell a different story.

Through early action, Ramírez is slashing just .212/.329/.401 with a .730 OPS—good for third among qualified Guardians hitters, but well below his usual elite standards. Over the past two weeks, that OPS has dipped to .682. For a player of his caliber, those numbers raise eyebrows.

Guardians manager Stephen Vogt addressed the situation after Tuesday's loss, offering a calm and measured take on his star third baseman's recent struggles.

"Yeah, for [José], he's in a little bit of a funk," Vogt admitted. "Again, he's one swing away from getting out of it."

Vogt's confidence isn't just blind optimism. While Ramírez's wRC+ of 103 is below his career average, he's still producing as an above-average hitter. More importantly, the underlying metrics suggest better days are ahead. His expected batting average (xBA) sits at .270 (75th percentile) and his expected slugging percentage (xSLG) is .480 (82nd percentile)—both signaling that he's been hitting the ball hard, just not finding holes.

Still, Vogt pointed out some mechanical adjustments Ramírez could make. "Just looks like, right now, he's maybe a little in between," the skipper explained. "He's a little late on fastballs, a little out in front of off-speed."

For Guardians fans, this is nothing new. Ramírez has proven time and again that he can shake off slow starts. With his elite bat speed, plate discipline, and track record, it's only a matter of time before José turns that hard contact into the production we've come to expect—and Vogt knows it.
