Grimsby Town winger Justin Amaluzor has a simple message ahead of Friday's League Two play-off semi-final second leg at Salford City: "We have nothing to lose."

The Mariners, who clinched the final play-off spot by finishing seventh, are heading into the decisive match after a 2-1 defeat in the first leg at Blundell Park on Sunday—a game they initially led.

"Deep down I'm determined to right our wrongs," Amaluzor told BBC Radio Humberside. "We should have won that game. I'm a very confident person and I'm ready to go. If you don't believe in yourself, no one will believe in you."

For the 29-year-old winger, this isn't just another match—it's a one-game shootout for a place at Wembley. "Football is always going to give you pressure, but it's amazing to have all this resting on one game," he said. "There's no point us feeling sorry for ourselves. We've got another game to play—a massive game."

Amaluzor knows the sting of play-off heartbreak firsthand. He experienced a similar scenario with Altrincham in 2024, when they led early against Bromley in the National League play-offs before ultimately falling short. "It's one of the worst feelings in the world," he admitted. "I was even on holiday watching the final, and it hurt so much. But that is football—you know one game you can be down and out, and the next game you can be back in it. That's what you've always got to tell yourself and your team-mates—that it's not over until it's over."

Grimsby's assistant manager, Shaun Pearson, knows a thing or two about comebacks. With over 230 appearances for the Mariners, he's experienced the lows—an FA Trophy final loss in 2013 and two Conference Premier play-off final defeats in 2013 and 2015. But he also knows the highs, having been part of the team that finally secured promotion back to the Football League via the play-offs in 2016.

According to Amaluzor, Pearson and manager David Artell have one consistent message for the squad: never lose belief. "They've said when the club tries to do great things, they always do it the hard way," Amaluzor added. "They said we're a good team, and we've been here before—which we have."

With everything on the line, Grimsby are embracing the underdog role. And as any sports fan knows, there's nothing quite like the drama of a do-or-die play-off clash.
