Griffins Finish Off Moose, Face Chicago in Next Round

The Grand Rapids Griffins have punched their ticket to the next round, and they're bringing some serious momentum with them. After a decisive 5-2 victory over the Manitoba Moose, the Griffins now set their sights on Chicago in what promises to be an electrifying series.

All eyes were on Axel Sandin-Pellikka, the young defenseman the Detroit Red Wings have high hopes for. He didn't disappoint. With the game knotted at 1-1, Sandin-Pellikka split two Moose defenders, showcasing the offensive flair that has Detroit management so excited, before sliding the puck past goalie Thomas Milic for the go-ahead goal. It was one of three power-play goals on the night for Grand Rapids, with John Leonard picking up the lone assist on that pivotal play.

The third period belonged to the Griffins' young guns. Michael Brandsegg-Nygard, another key piece of Detroit's future, converted a perfect centering feed from Amadeus Lombardi for an insurance goal. The Carter Mazur-Lombardi-Brandsegg-Nygard line was clicking on all cylinders, as Mazur later added the team's third power-play goal, an empty-netter, and an assist for a three-point night. It's the kind of performance that makes you believe in the Red Wings' pipeline.

Eduards Tralmaks got the scoring started early, netting the Griffins' first power-play goal just 4:40 into the first period. The Moose, who managed only five goals in the entire series, briefly tied things up on Dylan Anhorn's second-period strike, but Grand Rapids never looked back.

Between the pipes, goalie Michal Postava was steady as ever, turning aside 19 shots. His consistency has been remarkable—counting both the regular season and playoffs, Postava has now played 29 games without allowing more than three goals. In 23 of those outings, he's given up two or fewer. That's the kind of goaltending that wins playoff series.

For the Moose, it was a tough end to a hard-fought series. They went with Milic in net after using Domenic DiVincentiis in the first three games, but the 2023 fifth-round pick couldn't turn the tide. Lombardi's two assists were his first of the series, while Brandsegg-Nygard's goal was his second—exactly the kind of production the Red Wings front office wants to see from their top prospects.

Now, it's on to Chicago. With this young core playing with confidence and a hot goalie in net, the Griffins look ready for the challenge ahead.
