Returning home to Haymarket Park on Tuesday night, the Nebraska baseball team faced a familiar foe in the Creighton Bluejays. The Huskers, looking to secure the season series, found themselves in an early hole but showcased the resilience that has defined their 28-9 campaign, mounting a thrilling 5-4 comeback victory.
The game started on shaky ground for the Big Red. Creighton's offense erupted in the first inning, launching a two-run homer as part of a three-run surge. They added another run in the second, putting Nebraska in a daunting 4-0 deficit. The momentum, however, was about to shift dramatically.
Drew Grego became the catalyst for the Huskers' rally. In the bottom of the second, he answered with a two-run blast of his own, immediately cutting into the Bluejays' lead. Grego wasn't done, adding an RBI single in the third inning as part of a decisive offensive push. Key hits from Joshua Overbeek and Rhett Stokes brought in two more runs, completing the comeback and giving Nebraska a 5-4 lead they would not relinquish.
While the offense stormed back, the Nebraska bullpen delivered a masterclass in shutdown relief. After the early exit, Tucker Timmerman steadied the ship to earn the win. The relief corps, featuring strong outings from Caleb Clark, Ty Horn, and closer J’Shawn Unger—who secured his eighth save—combined to silence the Creighton bats, allowing just one run over the final eight innings.
This hard-fought win not only clinched the season series but also marked Nebraska's first home victory over Creighton since 2017, a significant milestone for the program. The Huskers now turn their attention to a major conference test, as they remain at home to host the No. 12 USC Trojans in a weekend series starting Friday night.
