Xavier Musketeers head coach Richard Pitino is making a notable addition to his staff, reportedly bringing in a familiar face to Cincinnati basketball circles. According to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein, Pitino is set to hire Greg Youncofski as an assistant coach.

Youncofski's hiring adds an intriguing layer to the Crosstown Shootout rivalry, as he previously spent six seasons across town with the Cincinnati Bearcats. He served under then-head coach Mick Cronin in various roles, including program assistant and video coordinator, before being promoted to an assistant coach position.

His coaching journey took him to UCLA to rejoin Cronin in 2019, and most recently, he was part of the basketball resurgence at St. John's under Rick Pitino. Youncofski joined the Red Storm as director of operations in 2024 and was elevated to an assistant coach for the 2025-26 season, gaining valuable experience under the Hall of Famer.

This move to Xavier represents a significant step for Youncofski, connecting him with another branch of the famed Pitino coaching tree.
