Grant Scott couldn't hide his joy after Celtic's thrilling 3-2 extra-time victory over Glasgow City in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park on Sunday. The win books the Hoops a return trip to the National Stadium later this month, and the Celtic FC Women's manager was quick to praise his squad's resilience.
"I'm absolutely delighted for them," Scott told Celtic TV after the match. "Our goal coming here was to get through the tie, and it was a well-deserved result. We gave up some territory and possession to City, but that was part of our game plan—to let them step forward and then hit them on the break. It worked perfectly, especially in extra time."
The match started with a bang as Celtic scored from their first real attack, a moment Scott believes was crucial. "That early goal gave us belief. You could see the confidence grow, and we started using the ball really well. When we had possession, we made it count."
But Glasgow City pushed back hard, forcing the game into extra time. Celtic's character shone through after conceding a late equalizer, and they responded by scoring a decisive third goal just before the end of the first extra-time period. "The reaction to losing that late goal was magnificent," Scott said. "Once we got that third, I felt the tie was won, even though we knew City would keep coming."
Looking ahead, Scott is keeping his squad focused on the bigger picture. "Myself and the staff won't let the players get distracted by the final at the end of the season. It's a massive occasion, and we'll show up to do well, but we have to take it week by week. We're aiming to win our next three league games first."
With the Scottish Cup final on the horizon, Scott knows the value of such hard-fought victories. "Winning important matches puts a spring in your step when you walk into work on Monday. The players should enjoy this moment, but we'll be back at it as soon as possible."
Celtic FC Women face Glasgow City Women again on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 12:30 PM—a match that promises more drama as the Hoops look to carry their cup momentum into league action.
