Grand Canyon University (GCU) Softball has officially claimed the 2026 Mountain West regular-season title, marking a historic milestone for the program and the university's athletics department as a whole.

The Lopes secured their 46th win of the season with a commanding 10-5 victory over Colorado State on Thursday night. Moments later, UNLV's upset win over Nevada clinched the regular-season crown for GCU in their inaugural year in the conference. This is the first Mountain West title for any Lopes team, a testament to the rapid rise of GCU athletics under head coach Shanon Hays.

Entering the 2026 season, GCU Softball was already riding high after four straight seasons of 39-plus wins and four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances. The move to the Mountain West Conference brought new challenges, with perennial contenders like Nevada, San Diego State, and Fresno State looking to dethrone the Lopes. But GCU proved they were more than ready for the step up in competition.

The Lopes opened the season with a blistering 30-0 start, becoming the last undefeated team in the nation. Their only blemish came in a controversial game against then-No. 21 Oklahoma State, where questionable officiating ended their perfect run. From there, GCU hit a slight rough patch, going 13-6 over their next 19 games, including a key series loss at home to Nevada and a run-rule defeat to San Diego State. But the Lopes maintained their composure while Nevada stumbled, losing six critical conference games that ultimately kept them out of the title picture.

Statistically, GCU dominates nearly every major category in the Mountain West. The Lopes boast the conference's best team ERA (2.17) and lead the league in strikeouts (311). Their pitching staff also posts the nation's best walk rate (5.4%), while the offense ranks second in the conference in batting average and run production. This combination of elite pitching and consistent hitting has made GCU a formidable force all season long.

For fans and gear enthusiasts alike, this championship run is a perfect moment to rep the Lopes with pride. Whether you're looking for game-day apparel or training gear, GCU's historic season is one to celebrate in style.
