The last time Philadelphia traded up for a wide receiver, they landed Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. Smith was a Biletnikoff Award winner, and the Eagles landed another one after GM Howie Roseman traded picks No. 23, 114 & 137 to Dallas for pick 20 and a 7th round pick to select USC wide receiver Makai Lemon. With the move, the expectation is that A.J. Brown will be traded after June 1, when his dead cap hit drops significantly.
"He has a lot to like about him," Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman said. "A competitor. Has the ability to separate in man coverage, out of the slot, he can play outside, physical player, really good with the ball in his hands. Really good hands, good in zone coverage, has really good instincts."
With the pick-in and reactions coming in, here's our grade for the Lemon pick.
Lemon was the best receiver in college football last season, taking home the Biletnikoff Award, and he was among the Eagles' top 15 players on their draft board. He's a jack-of-all-trades wide receiver who approaches YAC (yards after catch) like a running back, drawing comparisons to Amon-Ra St. Brown. His 90.8 PFF grade led all wideouts in college football last season, and he was the most outstanding wide receiver in college football after he caught 79 passes for 1,156 yards and 11 touchdowns.
