Gophers senior women's golfer Isabella McCauley is heading back to the big stage. After a stellar performance at the Ann Arbor, Michigan regional on Wednesday, McCauley secured her spot in the NCAA Division I championships with a fourth-place finish. She carded a 2-under 69 in the final round, wrapping up the regional at 3-under 210—a score that speaks to her consistency under pressure.
McCauley's journey to the national stage is no surprise to those who follow Gophers golf. This marks her third NCAA championship appearance in four years, a testament to her skill and composure. She advances as one of the top two individuals not on advancing teams, a hard-earned honor that underscores her individual brilliance.
Meanwhile, teammate Luisamariana Mesones also made her mark in Ann Arbor, finishing 23rd with a 219 (plus-6). The junior closed her season with a 4-over 75 in the final round, showing grit and determination. Coach Matt Higgins had nothing but praise: "Mariana capped off a great year here in Ann Arbor. I'm really proud of her and I know she is super motivated going into next year."
The NCAA championships are set for May 22-27 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California—a venue McCauley knows well. Higgins highlighted her recent form: "Bella played practically flawless golf the last two days. This is the third championship in four years for her. I know she is really excited to get back to La Costa and represent the Gophers."
As McCauley prepares to tee off, Gophers fans have every reason to be optimistic. With her experience and recent hot streak, she's poised to make a deep run. And for Mesones, this season's finish is just the beginning—expect big things from her as she returns for her senior year.
