Fresno City College's beach volleyball team is on a historic run, proving that a young program can quickly become a powerhouse. With a perfect season still intact, the Rams are not just winning—they're dominating, holding the number one ranking in the state and setting their sights on the championship that has narrowly eluded them.
The team's flawless 14-0 conference record is impressive, but the 70-0 mark in pairs competition this year reveals a staggering depth of talent. This success stems from a powerful blend of experience and hunger, combining veteran sophomores like Yosemite High grad Lusa Andrews with impactful upperclassmen transfers.
That blend has created a resilient squad. "Right now, we're a lot more hungry coming towards the end," says player Jayla Iversen, highlighting the team's focused mentality. This hunger is fueled by back-to-back seasons ending as state runners-up, a finish that has only sharpened their resolve.
For players like Andrews, that past experience is now a source of strength. "I remember being super nervous last year... but this year, I feel very confident, very secure," she notes, emphasizing the poised mindset the team carries into the postseason.
Head coach Kieran Roblee credits the leadership within the roster, stating, "When you have teams that can be senior led or sophomore led, you're going to have a really good season." This leadership fosters the mental toughness crucial for a title run, focusing on resilience during challenging points.
Now, the Rams turn their attention to the NorCal regionals at the end of the month, the next step toward their ultimate goal: the state final in May. From a first season just seven years ago to setting the standard today, Fresno City College beach volleyball is a testament to rapid growth and relentless pursuit of excellence.
