Good morning, Illini Nation! If you've been keeping an eye on the future of Illinois basketball, there's plenty of reason to get excited. The final rankings for the Class of 2026 dropped on Monday, and while Kansas-bound wing Tyran Stokes held firm at the top, it was the movement further down the list that has Champaign buzzing.
Leading the charge is future Illini guard Quentin Coleman, who made a significant leap to No. 15 overall—the first player just outside the coveted five-star tier. Coleman became Illinois' highest-profile commitment when he announced his decision on the eve of the Final Four, and his rise in the rankings only confirms what Brad Underwood and his staff already knew: this kid is special.
But Coleman isn't the only headline-maker. The Illini are also bringing in Lucas Morillo, a dynamic recruit ranked No. 34 in Rivals' latest update. Together, Coleman and Morillo anchor a five-man class that also features three-star wing Zavier Zens (No. 135 overall) and unranked three-stars Ethan Brown and Landon Davis. According to Rivals, this group currently sits fifth in the Big Ten and 15th nationally—marking Illinois' largest haul of high school recruits since 2018.
"I'm really excited about this group," Underwood said. "We've got every position covered in terms of the way we're trying to recruit. As usual, we're going to rely on some of these freshmen to be instrumental pieces for us. I always hold it close to the chest until you coach them and get them on campus, but it's a very talented group and one we like a lot."
Underwood also emphasized the importance of developing young talent and maintaining a healthy balance between instant-impact stars and long-term builders. "You've got to make sure that we keep freshmen in the mix," he added. "Not everybody is going to come in here and be a one-and-done or a pro. You've got to find that right balance—guys who are developing, carrying over culture, and growing in our program."
With a mix of rising stars and gritty role players, this class has the makings of something special. Whether you're looking to rep the next wave of Illini talent or just want to gear up for the season ahead, there's never been a better time to show your orange and blue pride.
