The show goes on in Golden State. After weeks of speculation, Steve Kerr has reportedly agreed to a two-year contract extension to remain head coach of the Warriors, ensuring the franchise's championship core stays intact for at least a little longer.

According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Ramona Shelburne, and Anthony Slater—and confirmed by NBC Sports Bay Area—Kerr will continue to lead the team. While he remains the highest-paid coach in the league, he may have taken a slight pay cut from last season's $17.5 million salary.

The decision didn't come easily. After the Warriors' early playoff exit, there was a growing sense that Kerr might not return. The organization was beginning to plan for life after Stephen Curry, wanted to shift their playing style, and needed a multi-year commitment from their coach. Kerr had spent last season on the final year of his contract, and the front office was eager to avoid another lame-duck year—especially with Curry entering the final season of his own deal.

That led to several meetings between Kerr, controlling owner Joe Lacob, and general manager Mike Dunleavy. They discussed both short-term goals and the franchise's long-term vision. Over time, the tone shifted. Kerr made it clear in interviews that he wasn't ready to walk away from Curry and Draymond Green.

Now, with Kerr locked in for two more seasons, the Warriors can turn their attention to extending Curry. Both Curry and Green had publicly voiced their support for keeping Kerr at the helm.

"I hope he's our coach next year," Green said after the Warriors were eliminated from the play-in by the Suns. "I've been so lucky to have Steve as my coach for 12 years."

It's been a challenging stretch since Golden State last won an NBA title four years ago. The team missed the playoffs entirely this season, finishing with just 37 wins as the No. 10 seed. They did have a dramatic play-in victory over the Clippers, but were ultimately bounced in the second round for the second time in recent years.

Those results make it clear that roster changes are coming. But with Kerr back on the bench and the core trio still in place, the Warriors are betting that their championship formula still has some magic left.
