FIFA President Gianni Infantino has delivered a reassuring message to soccer fans worldwide: geopolitical tensions and current U.S. immigration policies should not prevent supporters from traveling to enjoy the 2026 World Cup. Speaking at the Semafor World Economy event in Washington, D.C., Infantino expressed confidence that the global football community will be able to unite on American soil.

Addressing concerns over visa accessibility, Infantino highlighted that a faster visa process for ticket-holding fans is already in place and working effectively. This system, established last November, prioritizes appointments, aiming to process visas within six to eight weeks of application. His comments come amid broader discussions within FIFA about ensuring a smooth experience for international visitors during the tournament.

Infantino also directly addressed the participation of the Iranian national team, confirming they will play their matches in the U.S. as scheduled. He emphasized the unifying power of sport, stating, "I believe that we need competitions, events that bring people together from all over the world to unite people," while expressing hope for a peaceful geopolitical climate by 2026.

The overwhelming demand for the tournament is undeniable. Infantino revealed that FIFA has received a staggering 508 million ticket requests for just 6.5 million available seats across 105 matches, calling the demand "unprecedented." This massive influx of fans presents a significant opportunity for host cities, though it also comes with logistical challenges. Hilton CEO Christopher Nassetta noted that while hotel bookings in host cities are currently softer than hoped, he anticipates a surge in reservations as the event draws nearer.

As the world looks ahead to 2026, the focus remains on preparing for a festival of football that welcomes every fan. The stage is set for an unforgettable tournament, and the conversation is now centered on ensuring everyone has a chance to be part of it.
