Glasgow Warriors will have to navigate a crucial two-game stretch without their star playmaker, as fly-half Adam Hastings has been handed a two-match suspension that sidelines him for the upcoming URC showdowns against Cardiff and Ulster.
The 27-year-old's disciplinary troubles have been mounting over the past three months, with three separate temporary suspensions piling up since late January. The first incident came against Zebre Parma on January 24, followed by a home clash with Leinster on March 21, and most recently during the away trip to face the Stormers on April 25.
Two of these incidents—the tackles against Zebre and the Stormers—were classified as dangerous tackles, with officials noting a troubling pattern in Hastings' technique. The Leinster case, however, stemmed from retaliation rather than a tackle gone wrong.
The league's disciplinary panel didn't mince words in their assessment, stating, "I consider his conduct was moderately serious. The two dangerous tackles had concerning similar features with no attempt to wrap with the arms." The ruling continued: "I determine the appropriate sanction is a suspension from the game of rugby union of two weeks."
This suspension couldn't come at a worse time for Glasgow, who are deep in the URC playoff hunt. Hastings' absence will test the Warriors' depth in the fly-half position as they face a Cardiff side looking to bounce back and a dangerous Ulster team on the road. For fans and fantasy rugby enthusiasts alike, this is a reminder that discipline on the pitch is just as crucial as skill—and that every tackle, especially in the modern game, carries significant consequences.
