The Berks County girls track and field team is set to make a powerful statement at the District 3 Championships, dominating the top seedings in Class 2A and showcasing incredible depth across multiple events. With 15 top seeds overall—11 of them in Class 2A, including six of seven field events—Berks athletes are poised for an exciting two-day competition at Shippensburg University, starting Friday and concluding Saturday.

In Class 3A, the top five finishers will advance to the PIAA Championships the following weekend at Shippensburg, while in Class 2A, only the top two automatically qualify. However, competitors who miss automatic qualification can still advance by beating the state qualifying standard during the district meet.

Wyomissing, Oley Valley, and Schuylkill Valley are the schools leading the charge in Class 2A, accounting for all 11 top seeds. Two Berks athletes stand out as double top seeds: Wyomissing's Lily Paolini dominates both hurdle events in 2A, while Daniel Boone's Julia Leady takes the top spot in the 1600 and 3200 in 3A.

In the sprints, the competition is fierce. Schuylkill Valley junior Lilah Gilmore is seeded second in the 100 meters, just four-hundredths of a second behind top seed Cheyenne Eby of James Buchanan (12.34 to 12.38). Dulce Lytle of Wyomissing also claims second seed in the 200 meters, trailing Trinity's Nora Scanish (25.47 to 25.99). Eby is also the top seed in the 400 meters at 57.83, with Oley Valley sophomore Jillian Rogers (60.68) and Schuylkill Valley senior Amelia Falsone (60.94) close behind.

The middle-distance and distance events promise thrilling battles. Oley Valley junior Marli Laity is the top seed in the 800 meters, but second-seeded freshman Reagan Gates of Pequea Valley is hot on her heels (2:22.16 to 2:22.74). Gates is also the clear top seed in the 1600 meters, leading Oley Valley's Julianna Gourley by a wide margin (5:05.42 to 5:20.15), and she starts her bid for three individual gold medals as the top seed in the 3200 meters at 10:55.78. Schuylkill Valley freshman Matilda Walborn is third in the 3200 at 11:34.79.

In the hurdles, BCIAA champion Lily Paolini is a force to be reckoned with. Her 100-hurdle time of 14.05 is over a second faster than second-seeded Keira Stork of Schuylkill Valley (15.15), and her 300-hurdle time of 43.41 is more than three seconds ahead of Susquenita's Claire Wechsler (46.60).

Berks teams also shine in the relays, securing two of three top seeds. Wyomissing leads the 4 x 100 relay (49.55), while Oley Valley tops the 4 x 800 relay (9:49.21). Wyomissing is seeded second in the 4 x 400 relay (4:06.79), just tenths of a second behind top-seeded Trinity (4:06.47).

In the field events, Schuylkill Valley's Jadalynn Figueroa and Hannah Yobb are second and third in the high jump, both clearing 5-2, behind Adelyn Ober of Lancaster County Christian (5-3). The pole vault is a Berks stronghold, with Schuylkill Valley's Aimee Frantz (10-6) and Lilliam Emerson (9-6) taking the top two seeds.

With such a strong showing across sprints, distance, hurdles, relays, and field events, Berks athletes are ready to make their mark at the District 3 Championships. Whether you're cheering from the stands or gearing up in your favorite track gear, this is a meet you won't want to miss!
