Two days on one of Oklahoma's premier golf courses tested every player's mettle, but the Claremore Lady Zebras never stopped grinding until the final putt dropped. Competing at the scenic Shangri-La Golf Club in Afton, the team secured a 10th-place finish at the Class 5A State Championship, posting a two-day team score of 814 against one of the deepest fields in the state.
Ada captured the team championship with an impressive 699, while Tahlequah's Kylie Fisher claimed the individual title with a stellar 157—five strokes clear of the runner-up. For Claremore, the tournament was a testament to resilience and steady improvement.
Leading the charge were Kate Merriman and Ava Pettus, each finishing tied for 28th overall with two-day totals of 194. Merriman opened with the Lady Zebras' best round of the event, carding a 93 on Monday before finishing with a 101 on Tuesday. Pettus, meanwhile, showed true grit by rebounding from an opening-round 100 to shave six strokes off her score in the final round, shooting a 94 to match Merriman atop Claremore's leaderboard.
Brooklyn Babbitt also turned in a remarkable bounce-back performance, improving from a 104 on day one to a 97 on day two, finishing 40th overall with a 201. Victoria Leal placed 63rd with consistent rounds of 112 and 113, while Harper Rooney finished 71st after carding a 118 on Monday and a 130 on Tuesday.
Beyond Claremore, local talent also shined at the Class 4A State Championship, held at the historic Dornick Hills Golf & Country Club in Ardmore. Oologah's Brooklyn Jones led the area contingent there, finishing 34th with a two-day total of 200 after rounds of 102 and 98. Verdigris' Jackie Beauchamp placed 60th with a 216, while Oologah's Karsyn Littlepage (65th, 220) and Lucy Williams (69th, 227) also competed admirably.
Holland Hall's Megan Kalapura took home the Class 4A individual title with a brilliant 149, while Plainview dominated the team standings with a commanding 672, winning the championship by a staggering 46 strokes.
