The 2025–26 high school girls basketball season has officially wrapped up, and Section V is celebrating a strong showing on the state's all-state teams. The New York State Sportswriters Association released its large school selections on Monday, honoring standout players from Class AAA, AA, and A. In total, 14 athletes from Section V made the cut, with several more earning honorable mentions.
Leading the charge is Mercy's Emerson Wandtke, the lone first-team selection from the region. The freshman center has already made a name for herself, earning All-Greater Rochester first-team honors and MVP of the Class A section tournament. Her dominance on the court signals a bright future for Mercy basketball.
Several schools stood out with multiple selections. Aquinas, Our Lady of Mercy, Pittsford Sutherland, and Webster Schroeder each landed two players on the list. Aquinas claimed the Class AAA championship, Our Lady of Mercy took Class A, Webster Schroeder won Class AA-1, and Pittsford Sutherland was the Class AA-2 runner-up.
On the second team, Pittsford Sutherland's Lucy Bush and Webster Schroeder's Kenyatta Hart earned recognition for their standout seasons. Honorable mentions in the large school category include Vanessa Chumacero (Victor), Kimora Hampton (Wilson), Maddie Murphy (Hilton), and Leah Sheridan (Canandaigua).
The ninth team features Laura Kosten (Our Lady of Mercy) and Semaj Jackson (East High), with additional honorable mentions going to Shelby Geer (Palmyra-Macedon), Breyelle Geiger (School of the Arts), Jasmyne Jones (School of the Arts), and Darianna Weathers (East High).
This recognition highlights the depth of talent in Section V, from rising stars like Wandtke to seasoned players making their mark. Whether you're a fan, player, or coach, these all-state selections are a testament to the hard work and dedication that defines girls basketball in the region.
