Gina Carano says she lost 100 pounds during a 20-month stretch leading up to her MMA fight against Ronda Rousey Saturday, May 16 in Inglewood, Calif.

In the world of combat sports, transformations often happen inside the cage—but Gina Carano's most dramatic change happened long before she stepped into it. The former MMA star revealed a jaw-dropping 100-pound weight loss in the 20 months leading up to her highly anticipated fight against Ronda Rousey, set for Saturday, May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California.

The stunning revelation came not at the press conference, but on Instagram, shortly after Friday's official weigh-in. "Ok. Vulnerable post but here we are," Carano wrote alongside her weigh-in photo. "I just weighed in at 141.4 lbs. Since September 2024 to today, May 15, 2026, I have lost 100lbs. It hurts to say that and share but I am going to share it because I worked so damn hard every week for over a year and a half to shed this weight. It did not happen overnight."

To put that into perspective, that's a steady loss of about five pounds per month over nearly two years. At her heaviest of 240 pounds, the 5-foot-8 Carano weighed just 17 pounds less than 6-foot-4 heavyweight Francis Ngannou did at his own weigh-in for his bout against Philipe Lins on the same card. The contrast is a testament to her discipline and sheer willpower.

Both fighters needed to hit the 145-pound catchweight limit for their main event clash, and both did so with room to spare. Rousey tipped the scales at 142 pounds, setting the stage for what promises to be an electrifying showdown on an 11-fight card.

Carano didn't shy away from the raw honesty behind her journey. "If it wasn't for having this incredibly challenging goal in fighting @rondarousey, I most definitely wouldn't have reached this," she shared. "I was pre-diabetic, had trouble simply walking in September and have been on the path to recovery to turn myself back into an athlete since then."

For fans and athletes alike, Carano's story is a powerful reminder that sometimes the greatest victories aren't the ones you see on fight night—they're the ones you earn in the months and years of grueling work before the bell rings. Whether you're training for a championship or just your next workout, Carano's journey proves that with the right goal and relentless effort, anything is possible.
