Giannis Antetokounmpo, the two-time NBA MVP and cornerstone of the Milwaukee Bucks, has confirmed he will sit out Greece's upcoming FIBA World Cup 2027 qualifying games this summer. In a candid interview with Greek broadcaster ANT1, the "Greek Freak" explained his decision, emphasizing his desire to represent his country but also the need to prioritize his long-term health and preparation.

"I cannot play in the World Cup qualifying windows," Antetokounmpo shared. "I really wanted to play with the national team, because I did not play much with the Bucks this season due to injury. Now that I'm healthy, I wanted to play, but we will wait until 2027." His comments point to the World Cup's final stage in Qatar during the next offseason as his next major milestone with the Greek senior squad.

Despite sitting out the upcoming July and August windows, Antetokounmpo assured fans that his legs are in good shape. "My legs are fine," he added, offering a positive update on his recovery from a season that saw him limited to just 73 games due to various ailments. For basketball enthusiasts and apparel fans alike, this news underscores the careful balance elite athletes strike between national pride and career longevity—a reminder that even superstars need to pace themselves for the biggest stages ahead.
