Every baseball season brings a fresh start, but for the East Grand Forks Sacred Heart Eagles, this year represents a particularly significant reset. The team is navigating a major transition, having graduated its top four hitters and lost roughly 75% of its innings pitched from last year's squad.

That includes the departure of ace Parker Erickson, now beginning his collegiate career at St. Cloud State. Facing such substantial turnover means Head Coach Paul Bethke is writing this season's lineup card in pencil, not pen, as new roles are forged on the diamond.

"There are surprises every year," Bethke said. "With a lot of newcomers, it becomes a fun challenge to get guys to where they’re going to have their best chance for success, which in turn helps our team."

The foundation for this rebuild rests on key returning veterans. Seniors Isaac Sundby and Liam Larson are set to provide crucial production and leadership. Bethke praised Sundby's steady, lead-by-example approach and highlighted Larson's emergence as a more vocal presence in the clubhouse.

On the mound, the Eagles will look to sophomore Nick Satterlund to anchor the rotation. Satterlund brings a proven track record and valuable experience from a strong summer with the East Grand Forks Legion team. He'll be supported by classmate Blaine Johnson, who gained key varsity innings late last season.

Developing pitching depth will be a central theme this spring. The Eagles plan to give opportunities to a mix of arms, including freshmen Brady Horken and Joey Erickson, alongside seniors Asher Zavoral and Reez Eckerdt. "We’ll be looking at a lot of guys," Bethke noted, emphasizing the process of building comfort and consistency on the mound as the season progresses.

While the roster features many new faces, the Eagles are embracing the opportunity. This season is about discovery, growth, and watching a new core of players step up to define their legacy in Sacred Heart baseball.
