The recruiting trail doesn't always go according to plan, and Georgia just learned that the hard way. The Bulldogs came up short in their pursuit of Peter Bourque, the nation's No. 7 quarterback recruit, who has committed to Virginia Tech over Georgia.

Bourque, a four-star signal-caller from the class of 2027, stands at an impressive 6-foot-4 and 220 pounds. The Tabor Academy (Mass.) product is ranked as the No. 80 overall prospect in the country and is known for his strong arm and pocket presence. He originally committed to Michigan but decommitted in February 2026, opening the door for other programs.

Georgia made a strong push, hosting Bourque for two unofficial visits in March. But the Hokies stole the show. After an unofficial visit to Blacksburg on April 18, Bourque was sold. It's a major win for Virginia Tech and first-year head coach James Franklin, who is building momentum with the No. 17 recruiting class in the nation. Bourque now stands as the top prospect in that class.

For Georgia, the miss stings even more given recent recruiting turbulence. The Bulldogs currently hold the No. 28 recruiting class, but they've seen key pieces slip away. Five-star Donte Wright flipped to Miami, while four-star Jerry Outhouse (UCLA) and three-star Aden Starling (undetermined) also decommitted earlier this month. A recent commitment from three-star linebacker Temorris Campbell provided a small boost, but Georgia is clearly feeling the void at quarterback.

With Bourque off the board, the Bulldogs are running out of options. Of the top 30 quarterback recruits in the 2027 cycle, 29 have now committed. The lone uncommitted elite QB is four-star Colton Nussmeier, who remains a Georgia target. Other programs still searching for a top-30 QB in this cycle include Auburn, UCLA, and Penn State.

For Georgia fans, the message is clear: the clock is ticking. Coach Kirby Smart and his staff will need to lock in on Nussmeier or risk being left out of the quarterback conversation entirely for the 2027 class.
