In a candid admission after the Miami Grand Prix, George Russell revealed that adopting Kimi Antonelli's car setup delivered unexpectedly impressive results—a discovery that could reshape the Mercedes intra-team battle this season.

The British driver struggled to find his rhythm around the Miami International Autodrome all weekend, while his teenage teammate continued his remarkable winning streak with a third consecutive victory. Russell's late-race adjustments brought him closer to Antonelli's pace, ultimately securing a damage-limiting fourth-place finish.

"I made some quite big changes with my differentials and brake bias, much closer to what Kimi has been running this whole weekend, and it made a bigger impact than I thought," Russell told Sky Sports F1. The 28-year-old admitted the track's unique layout and surface didn't suit his natural driving style, leaving him searching for answers throughout the weekend.

The turning point came with 20 laps remaining when Russell, then running sixth, decided to experiment with Antonelli's setup philosophy. The result was immediate—his final 10 laps were significantly more competitive, though he acknowledged it wasn't enough to salvage what he called "not a good weekend."

Despite the struggles, Russell's fourth-place finish and two points gained in the Miami sprint race have kept him within striking distance of Antonelli, trailing by 20 points after four rounds. The championship battle between the Mercedes teammates is already shaping up to be one of the season's most compelling storylines.

Russell was quick to credit his younger teammate's talent, saying: "He's a fantastic driver, he's been exceptionally quick since day one. You don't win all those championships as a youngster if you don't have the speed." But the experienced Briton remains confident in his own abilities, adding: "I've still got the confidence in myself. I've not forgotten how to drive. It's just a little bit of a tricky run."

With 20 races remaining in the season, Russell's willingness to adapt and learn from his teammate's setup choices could prove crucial in what promises to be an intense all-Mercedes title fight. For fans and aspiring drivers alike, it's a masterclass in the importance of flexibility and data-sharing within a team—even when competing against your own garage mate.
