The Serie A transfer rumor mill is heating up, and Juventus is making bold moves to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season. According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Bianconeri have set their sights on Roma's standout centre-back, Evan Ndicka, and they're willing to include midfielder Teun Koopmeiners in a potential swap deal to get the deal done.
This transfer buzz comes at a pivotal moment in the Serie A season. Juventus currently hold fourth place in the standings, but their recent draw against Hellas Verona has tightened the race. Roma, meanwhile, closed the gap to just one point after a dominant 4-0 victory over Fiorentina. The two clubs are locked in a fierce battle for Champions League qualification—and now, they might collide in the transfer market as well.
For Juventus, shoring up the backline is a top priority this summer. Manager Luciano Spalletti is working with limited defensive options, and the club's management—led by Damien Comolli and Marco Ottolini—has identified Ndicka as the ideal solution. The 25-year-old Ivorian is a product of Auxerre's youth system and made a name for himself at Eintracht Frankfurt before joining Roma in 2023. Since arriving in the Italian capital, he's quickly become a key figure in the Giallorossi's defense.
Ndicka's current contract runs through June 2028, but Roma are reportedly open to listening to offers starting at €40 million. That price tag could be a hurdle, but Juventus might have a creative workaround. The Bianconeri are considering offering Koopmeiners—a €60 million signing from Atalanta in 2024—as part of the deal. The 28-year-old Dutchman hasn't quite replicated his explosive form from his Atalanta days under Gian Piero Gasperini, and a fresh start in Rome could be exactly what he needs.
For Roma, this could be a win-win: they'd offload a defender approaching his peak value while adding a proven Serie A midfielder who could thrive under their system. Ndicka, a left-footed defender comfortable in a three-man backline or on the left side, would also bring flexibility to Juventus—rotating with the likes of Gleison Bremer or Lloyd Kelly.
But Juventus aren't the only ones circling. Barcelona have also added Ndicka to their shortlist, eyeing him as a potential backup if they fail to land Inter's Alessandro Bastoni. With the summer transfer window approaching, this is a name to watch—and a deal that could reshape the defensive landscape of Serie A.
