Roma head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is sending a clear message ahead of the 2026-27 season: no more "misunderstandings." The experienced tactician wants full alignment with the club's leadership to ensure his vision for the team is realized.
Fresh off a commanding 4-0 victory over Fiorentina, Roma are breathing down the necks of the Serie A elite. With just three matches left in the current campaign, the Giallorossi sit only one point behind fourth-placed Juventus in the race for Champions League qualification—a remarkable position given the ups and downs they've faced.
"I've always received important answers from these lads, who have always wanted to improve themselves," Gasperini said after the match, via Corriere dello Sport. "We've never given up; we didn't have a target, so we set it ourselves. We know that by recovering some players, we can have our say."
But the 68-year-old coach isn't just focused on the immediate finish line. He's already looking ahead to next season with a clear demand for clarity. "At the end of the season, we'll have to talk to avoid the misunderstandings we've had. We need clarity. Perhaps we didn't understand each other well. Now we are there, and we'll fight."
The timing of Gasperini's comments is no coincidence. Roma recently parted ways with Senior Advisor Claudio Ranieri, effectively strengthening Gasperini's authority within the club. Sporting director Frederic Massara is also expected to depart at season's end, following reports that Gasperini and the executive had differing views throughout the campaign.
"We want to gift a result beyond predictions, and this strongly motivates us," Gasperini added. "This team's strength is the unity in the dressing room, and it bothers me to think that this group is only worthy of a fifth- or sixth-place finish. This is a strong team with solid foundations. There are values that must be respected."
For Roma fans, Gasperini's words signal both ambition and a demand for stability. As the Giallorossi push for a top-four finish, the coach is already laying the groundwork for a season where his ideas—and his alone—will guide the club's direction. Whether that leads to Champions League glory or domestic success, one thing is clear: Gasperini wants full control of the wheel.
